Vintage Okura Japan Tale of Genji Flowers Special Edition Cups & Saucers Aoi

  
This exquisite vintage teacup and saucer set from OKURA Japan (Okura Art China) features a stunning design on white porcelain. The delicate floral theme indicates the 9th Chapter of the Tale of Genji, named "Aoi ". The plant aoi, sacred to the Kamo Shrine, grows on the forest floor and consists of a pair of broad, heart -shaped leaves that spring from a single stem. At the Kamo Festival people decorated their headdresses and carriages with it, and the wordplay and the aoi's configuration suggest the translation "heart-to-heart". Okura is well known in Japan and famous for the high-quality porcelain. This tea cup & saucer is a special limited edition and discontinued for a long time.

There are mild signs of wearing due to its vintage condition, please refer to each photo for details carefully. The "Tale of Genji" theme is very hard to find. Saucer is approximately 5-1/2 (14.7 cm) diameter. Cup is approximately 3-1/4" (9.6 cm) in diameter and is approximately 2-1/8" (5.4cm) tall.
