Antique Schlegelmilch Tea Cup & Saucer, Hand Painted Snow Scene, Irridescent

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in Thuringia, Germany by the Erdmann Schlegelmilch Porcelain Factory around 1902. This factory was founded in Thuringia in 1861 and continued through 1937. The saucer is 6 inches in diameter.

The cup is 2 1/2 inches tall with a diameter of 3 3/4 inches. The cup features a gracefully curled handle and pedestal base. The set is hand painted with iridescent paint. Sunset on a snow covered pine forest is portrayed in a distinctive style. Aside from the unique use of iridescent colors, this artist used white enamel accents to produce texture on the pine trees with snow on them.

You can feel it with your fingertips. It adds depth to the landscape. The outside of the cup is painted an amazing iridescent blue-green color that is difficult to describe. It changes with the light.

The handle is richly gilded and rims are trimmed with beaded gold. This is a marvelous Nouveau work of art in a cup and saucer that is very rare. The Post Office requires this.
