Antique Paris Portrait Cup & Saucer, Sevres Style, C

  

CONDITION: There is a light scratch on the left side of her neck. It is not easily seen. This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in Paris France by an unknown Paris decorating firm. The portrait has the artist's initials. The saucer has a diameter of 5 ½ inches and the cup is 2 inches high.

The portrait is of Anne Marie Louise d'Orleans, Duchess of Montpensier, a member of King Louis XIV court. She lived from 1627 to 1693. The portrait is expertly hand painted. Under magnification, the painting has fine detail and high quality. The saucer has hand painted doves, a torch and a quiver of arrows.

The rims are trimmed with lacy gilding and gold trim. The portrait is after a painting of the Duchess from the School of Pierre Mignard.
