Although this is usually called a teacup, but it is actually a holder of ginseng soup. Ginseng soup used to be a popular drink in wealthy Chinese families, and more expensive than tea.
Tea was for anyone, but ginseng soup was for senior members of the family only. Cups made for ginseng soup were exclusively for wealthy families and therefore crafted with more care.
The finial on the lid is in the shape of a peach. The peach was a symbol of longevity, and often used as a birthday gift to a senior family member. Be ware of potential delays in clearing custom.
