Sèvres arabesque tasse à thé and saucer Date : 1791 Period : Louis XVI Marks : Sèvres mark along with "oo" date letter for 1791 and "fB" Francois Bouillat's mark Origin : Sèvres, France Colour : Polychrome Pattern : Black arabesques against a yellow background with four ovals with sprays of flowers flowers Features : Scrolled gilded handle and gilded rims to both cup and saucer Condition : Sub 1mm nick to the rim under the gilding from manufacture. Very minor wearing to the enamelling and gilding. Restoration : None Dimensions : 12cm diameter saucer, 4.5cm height cup, 7.7cm diameter cup Weight : 194 grams. The tasse a thé (teacup) shape is quite rare and we do not know whether or not this would have been made in multiple sizes as with many Sèvres items. A possible reason for this relative rarity is that the love of tea which so gripped Britain never took off to the same extent in France. For examples of the same shape and more information please see. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971.
